The next few days passed in unexpected comfort. Not everything was perfect. The silence was still there, but it was no longer the uncomfortable silence that had once existed between them. It had become comfortable.
Yahzaan never missed an opportunity to remind Layla how much he loved her and their baby. Sometimes it was through words. Sometimes through little handwritten notes left beside her breakfast. Sometimes by bringing home her favorite desserts after work. And sometimes, it was simply the way his hand instinctively found her stomach whenever he walked past her. At first, Layla remained guarded. She answered him with nods, short replies, or quiet hums. But slowly, without even realizing it herself, the walls around her heart began to crack.
